Samson's Darby-Q Seasoning
Product packaging and marketing
Samson's Darby Q started as a version of an annual seasoning created by a group of firefighters. This Particular Seasoning was created and crafted by a firefighter, dad, EMT, and medic; Samson. In previous years the seasoning had a more cartoonish feel to it and Sam wanted to change that.
This Project already had a pig character that was pretty friendly looking along with a more bubbly script font. With Sam's ideas, I started my journey to change this and create something that really hit all of Sam's visions. To make sure that the design didn't go overboard on the aggressive side there was the request for some brighter colors; which I fit in the text and flames. With the Edgy change request, I redesigned the pig head with a more detailed cartoon look. I added smoke coming out of the mouth instead of the nose to symbolize the warmth and savory taste of the seasoning.
Animal illustrations are a reoccurring theme with me and I love every second of it. Though I am not doing as much in the current times I never take long before doing another animal-based project. Samson is currently still selling the seasoning and has kept it on the market because of its popularity.
The logo was the main focus of this project; from there I created flyers and assets for Sam to include on business cards, platforms, and updated media or prints. I personally have the seasoning in my kitchen and highly recommend stopping over to the website to check it out. I will include the link here.
Samson's Darby-Q went a lot like my other works in that a creative brief was done, and initial sketches and research were done to get the brain flowing and in the best direction. Touch-point meetings were held so that I could work with sam as a team to create a design that he saw gave him and his product the personality it needed. Chose a design layout that fits the vision and is finalized with proofs in-between. We went through marketing small campaigns and created informative flyers for the new seasoning gone full time. Mockups are also part of the process for this and many projects.
